Welcome to the WAEC News update, where we provide the latest news about the much-anticipated results from the West African Examination Council (WAEC).
Many students and parents have been asking this question. Most schools and JAMB (Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board) now require WAEC results before giving admission. In fact, most universities and polytechnics won’t allow you to register for their post-UTME screening exercise if you are waiting for your WAEC result. This is part of a conscious effort to prevent the situation where admission to applicants who may not even have WAEC results.
Where a student takes the screening examination, admission will only be given if he or she passes the exam and uploads his or her WASSCE results as required by the admission board.
Nowadays, no school will admit any student without a WAEC result. This situation might seem stressful, but it is the reality we face today.

The West African Examinations Council has assured everyone that they will do everything possible to release all results within 45 days. This information was given by Mr. Damianus Ojijeogu, who was the council’s Head of Public Affairs when the “45 days policy” was started.
He explained that after each exam, various centers have to submit their scripts, brief the board, and then the marking of scripts begins immediately. The good news is that WAEC results can even be released before the 45-day mark, but at most, it will take 45 days.
In the past, you had to wait 90 days, which is equivalent to three months, or even more before you could check your results. But now, that long wait is a thing of the past.
New Method Used in Marking The WAEC Scripts
In the past, WAEC relied heavily on school teachers and private bodies to help them mark the results. This often caused unnecessary delays and problems. However, WAEC has now deployed technology to all marking venues throughout the Federation and other West African states. This technology helps scan the scripts, enhancing the marking process.
WAEC has acquired a device that automatically scans your script, uploads it online, and marks it instantly. This technological advancement has significantly sped up the process of releasing results.
Examination Malpractice
The West African Examination Council is working hard to eliminate exam malpractice. They promise to use advanced technology to detect cheating during exams. For the past few years, there has been a push by the exam board to introduce a CBT (Computer-Based Testing) method of exams. If fully implemented, this will effectively eliminate cheating and malpractice.
